VOTE!: An artful plea encouraging people to vote.

When we all vote, we have the power to change things. Vote for those who don’t have a voice. Vote with your dollars in the businesses you support. Vote at the ballot box. You’re already voting every day; it is your responsibility to do so wisely. Your future, my future, and the future of all those behind us depend on it.

Dear Levi’s High Waisted Skinny Jeans – A Love Story in Three Acts

When you look good, you feel good. And when you feel good, you have the power to change.

Whatever makes you feel good – a pair of jeans, a bowtie, red lipstick, going braless, or fresh white kicks – go for it. Wear it. Put in on. Take it off. Life is too short and too hard, sometimes through no fault of our own, to wear items that don’t make you feel like the sexy motherf#$ker that you are.

Sewn Apart Projects

At Sewn Apart, we believe in doing the right thing. We think globally and act locally. SA makes small batch, hand crafted bowties and more by recycling old clothes and found fabric. We do this as a statement about how much we waste as a society, food and otherwise. We believe cotton agriculture is the elephant in the room in the agricultural world – and the clothes we put on our bodies are just as much a part of our lives as the food we eat – both of which come from the same system.

FABRIC COMPOSTING : AN EXPERIMENT IN RECYCLING WITH SUNCOAST COMPOST

According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, downcycling is “to recycle (something) in such a way that the resulting product is of a lower value than the original item: to create an object of lesser value from (a discarded object of higher value).” Think turning thick white computer printing paper into a finer paper such as newspaper. Or take plastic soda bottles that are downcycled into lesser quality items like fleece and siding. The thing with downcycling is that eventually, all items come to an end of life and oftentimes still find their way to a landfill. It goes without saying, of course, that recycling of any kind is better than sending items directly to a landfill.

WHAT IS SEWN APART?

Sewn Apart takes old clothes and refashions them into new designs. The clothes that we put on our body and the food that we eat come from the same system and our agricultural system is fundamentally broken. We want to address that. Currently, we are giving back by partnering with an urban farm, The Sustainable Living Project. A portion of all sales goes toward supporting them and their mission of teaching others about sustainable gardening and living. SLP is also allowing us to conduct a fabric composting project with on their land.*

HAPPY 85TH BIRTHDAY TONY OR LESSONS FROM A LIFE WELL LIVED

His legacy continues. I see his presence sprinkled throughout my family in his work ethic, his friendliness, the devotion to his family, and in his style. Oh his style! The first few bowties I made were for his funeral in 2014. He was the original bowtie wearer in the family. Although truth be told, he didn’t wear a lot of bowties, rather he wore the same few often. I started making bowties as a way to honor him and I continue to make bowties as a way to keep his spirit alive.
