Aunt Doris' Bouquet
Aunt Doris' Bouquet
It had been in my parent’s house for years. I always liked it because it was simple and detailed at the same time.
I told my mom, “Whenever you get tired of this one, I’d like to request it.” A few years later, my mom gave me this painting. She said Aunt Doris painted it.
I’ve never met Aunt Doris and she’s been gone for some years now. However, I have pieces of Doris throughout my space, pieces of her travels – a small vase or a tapestry. I have some of her jewelry. I’ve heard that she had many adventures in her life, and she was quite independent. She traveled to India and I have a little dish from her. She divorced when it was still a bit taboo to do so. Never had children. Remarried. I hear from my mom and aunt that she lived her life as she pleased.
I honor the strong women in my life whose stories teach me to be independent and remind me to live my life for me.
I’ve always liked this bouquet, the colors, the variety of flowers, the fact that the vase has a handle. I also liked how ornate the frame was; it was a very nice compliment.
